Drag — 68 minutes apart

Three things happen that don’t happen anywhere else.

That pair above is one scalp, one session. Sixty-eight minutes between the two frames.

1

We look first

A scalp camera at 200×, before anything gets wet. You see your own scalp on a screen — most people never have.

2

Fifteen minutes of steam

Heat melts the wax that water can’t move. The step everyone skips, and the one that makes the wash actually work.

3

We look again

Same magnification, same light, end of the session. The pictures go to your phone. No filters, no angles.

What’s actually in there

Buildup isn’t on your locs. It’s inside them.

Seattle water is soft — about 26 ppm — so what’s sitting in your hair isn’t mineral scale. It’s sebum, product wax and dead skin, pressed between the fibres in layers, one wash at a time.

Wax doesn’t rinse. It melts. That’s why we steam before we wash — and why we never use conditioner, which is a film by design, and the film is what buildup is made of.

What we’ll tell you straight

We can’t make your hair grow.

Nothing here grows hair, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. A clean scalp stops working against you. Worth doing. Not a miracle.

Five years of buildup doesn’t leave in ninety minutes.

Sometimes one visit, sometimes three. The camera tells us which, and we’ll say so on the first visit.

If a loc is soft in the middle, that isn’t buildup.

That’s a loc breaking down from the inside, and no wash fixes it. We’ll show you, and be honest if it’s time to cut.

We ask before we touch.

A short intake form at the start — allergies, asthma, pregnancy, anything medical going on with your scalp, and whether you’re happy for us to keep your photographs. All of it changes what we use on you, and the photographs are never shared without your written yes.

Some scalps shouldn’t be stripped.

Tender, flaking or dry — a hard wash makes it worse, so we dial it down. And if it looks medical rather than cosmetic we’ll say that too. We’re loc specialists, not dermatologists.
